
Five year olds who are ready for kindergarten are:
Healthy
- Have a current medical record at the time of registration
- Have received all required immunizations
Physically Ready
- Can hop, skip, run and jump
- Can participate in movement and dance
Socially and Emotionally Ready
- Can communicate needs and wants
- Are able to manage feelings
- Are beginning to show a curiosity and desire to learn
Cognitively Ready
- Can tell someone his or her name
- Recognize basic colors
- Use writing tools (pencils, crayons, markers)
- Can draw a picture of a person and name body parts like head, knees, arms and legs
- Are able to sit and listen to an appropriate story for three and four year olds
- Can follow simple directions
- Use language to express needs and wants
- Are able to count
- Know at least two to three familiar nursery rhymes or chants
