Why is it important for preschoolers to receive Learning Checkups?
Many kindergarteners start school lacking the skills they need to learn.  And many children struggle to catch up to their classmates.  A Learning Checkup helps families know if their children have the skills to succeed in school and identifies any potential learning, vision, speech or hearing problems so a child can get help before entering kindergarten.

What are my responsibilities?
Columbus Kids asks that you promote Learning Checkups and encourage your families to participate in the program. Help your families complete the Learning Checkup with their children. Collect the completed checkups, communicate the results to families, and enter the information in the Columbus Kids database.

Who is my contact at Columbus Kids?
You will be assigned a staff member who will assist you with all aspects of the program.  If you don’t know who your staff member is, call 614-241-3089.

Can I answer the Learning Checkup for children in my care?
A parent or family member should complete the Learning Checkup with their child and return the questionnaire to you. You may provide assistance as needed.

Will I be compensated?
Columbus Kids will provide a financial incentive for every Learning Checkup that you collect and enter the information into the database.

What happens if one of our children needs intervention?
If a child in your care has an area, which needs improvement, a Columbus Kids staff member will provide referral information to you and/or the parents.

Are there eligibility requirements to participate in Columbus Kids? Columbus Kids will eventually serve all children who live in the Columbus City Schools district.  However, the program is being implemented in phases.  Please check the map for a list of neighborhoods where Learning Checkups are available.
